The Degrees
The Section of Microbiology within the Department of Molecular
Biosciences, as one discipline member of the Graduate School at
the University of Kansas, offers several advanced degrees. These are:
Master of Arts (Research or Library); and, Doctor of Philosophy in
Microbiology. In addition to these degrees, students may be accepted
into the Genetics Program, through the Department of Microbiology, and
earn a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics (Microbiology). An advanced degree in
Microbiology prepares one for several different positions in
academic research and teaching, or for various kinds of employment
in industry, depending upon the type of degree obtained. It is not only the
knowledge obtained from advanced study but also the training received, which
allow one to contribute to advances in science, technology, and education
within our society. The graduate alumni of our department
have contributed, and continue to contribute to the betterment of our
society in many different areas. We are proud of them; we respect
them, and, we remember them all. Just remember, while advanced study is
rigorous and challenging, it is also fun, and substantially
rewarding. So, read further, and let us hear from you.
